Characters-Basic Info-US Ethnic Groups
Latinx does not appear as a default option to select. This seems an oversight considering this ethnicity represents nearly 20% of the population.
Well, it seems this company likes to disrespect my culture and language. I will be deleting my account and looking for another platform that enables me to pursue my creative endeavors without imposing further american colonialism on me and my people.
Ethnicity is "Latino". Drop the x.
Latinx is the gender neutral term for all people of Latin American origin or descent. It is not a typo.
My request is to name category Latinx.
"Latino" was a word imposed onto latinoamerican countries by the colonialist northamerican government, decades ago.
It's only virtue is that it is a word with a historical and linguistic rationale and can, roughly, describe a set of shared characteristics across the different countries and cultures it defines.
"Latinx" is yet another effort of pampered americans to impose a word to define my culture.
It does not have a historical or ethnical reason to exist.
It negates the syntactic and gamatic rules on my language.
It is unpronounceable by my people.
And it is yet another effort to impose the will of a while savior who believes they can impose their worldview onto the rest of the world.
In spanish, the neutral is written the same as the masculine. "Latino" is the neutral word that applies to both male AND female.
Stop imposing your own words onto my people.
Signed, a Mexican.
Thanks for the suggestion here - Yes, I definitely agree and have added that to our next release! When I went around the first time to do US Ethnic Groups I ended up using the same 5 categories listed on the US Census just to keep things brief and non-overwhelming, but I do think it needs to be more representative overall as well, some room for improvement here
